The Selma High Water Polo Girls’ team leaps into the season with a win against Sanger West on August 31st.
With the practices, the team unite together to make new improvements that are greatly visible to how they play in their games.
“So much improvement! You can see a huge difference from the first game we played. Not only can you see it but parents and School staff have also mentioned that they see Improvement,” explained Coach Chrystelle Jaramillo.
Coach Chrystelle has been coaching the water polo team for just one year. As a former player of water polo, Coach Chrystelle has grasped a love for water polo. She has fallen into coaching the team, consisting of being able to adapt to the environment and the people around you.
“I have played water polo in high school for four years and I loved it. It was something different and so now that I’m in position, I am excited to be here to continue this program and build it up,” explained Coach Chrystelle.
A team is who you have to surround yourself with for hours, they tend to be part of your family at school. It’s important to have a good friendship with them to have a successful season.
Sarah Barron is a junior in her 3rd year of being part of the water polo team. She agrees that in order for a team to be successful, they have to have good communication.
“I tend to have a good relationship with the girls since we are kind of like family. It’s no problem getting along with them because they’re all respectful and they are good at what they do,” explained Barron.
Every successful team has goals for themselves, the team has improvements as a whole to push them forwards into a victorious season.
Destiny Rivera is in her second year of being in water polo and is in her junior year. As a group, she has a goal to accomplish at the season to improve their way of playing.
“I don’t have major goals, but I believe we all have improvements to do individually to have a good season in the future,” explained Rivera.
With their performance and goals in mind, the team reflected on the sport they love in the hopes that other students at Selma High School might be encouraged to try out for water polo in the future. Water polo’s upcoming away game is against Kingsburg, October 17th at 5:30 pm.
