Selma High’s annual Club Rush occurred from September 7th through the 8th. Many clubs were put together by students and organizations, and the event ran during lunch for two days. Some of the clubs include For the Dogs, Friday Night Live, Hiking Club, Key Club, Medical Careers, and Skills USA.
Selma High’s Club Commissioners senior Alyssa Vasquez and sophomore Jayleen Sisavanh were delighted to see how Club Rush turned out.
“I really love the clubs we have this year,” shared Vasquez, “We have a lot of new clubs and clubs that came back from years past.”
A new club that has joined this year is Punjabi Club. After many years, the Punjabi club has been put together to help revive the Punjabi culture on campus. Club president senior Simranjit Kaur is thrilled about what’s to come.
“One of our main goals is to bring back ‘Bollywood Dance’ [because] many students and teachers are in hopes for this dance, and we are trying our hardest to bring it back,” expressed Kaur.
Kaur was worried that many people wouldn’t join the club, but it turned out to be a success.
“I am so happy with the amount of people that joined Punjabi Club,” mentioned Kaur. “Definitely was not expecting that many.”
Another club on campus this year is the Theatre Production/Drama Club. Drama Club started a few years back, but every year it strives to recruit new members into the arts. Club president and vice-president, seniors Monika Treviño and Joanne Garza helped recruit more students to the club. They hope to bring recognition to the performing arts.
“Drama club is planning on partnering with FFA’s Floral Design class to sell flowers at our shows as a convenience to audience members,” stated Garza, “In doing so, we are providing an additional SAE project to the kids in Floral [Design].”
Not only has Drama Club initiated a partnership with Floral Design, but it also meets up together to discuss field trips, fundraisers, and audition opportunities while ending their meetings with a theater game.
“It’s really heartwarming to see new, unexpected people in the meeting room and see how the ‘theater kid life’ grows on them,” expressed Garza.
Overall, Club Rush was a success, and the club commissioners were content to see the results and hard work pay off.
“I feel like the clubs on campus are all different in their own ways, which gives students a great opportunity to be able to join [and] express their interests,” mentioned Sisavanh.
There is still time to join the clubs of this year. There is a link on the digital bulletin which mentions all the clubs.
