Mr. Aguillar is one of the new science teachers here on campus.
Although this is his first year teaching here at Selma High, he taught at a junior high in Parlier for three and a half years. He has also been coaching baseball here at SHS before teaching on campus.
“It’s really great here,” he shared.
Aguillar was also a student here at Selma High, graduating in 2014. After attending Reedley College for two years, Mr. Aguillar transferred to Fresno State, where he played baseball. Earned his Bachelor’s in Biology, and minored in Chemistry.
“Science is my passion,” Aguillar stated.
As a teacher, he hopes to be able to guide his students and help them grow into better individuals. He finds that being able to know and understand your students on a personal level is an important part of being an educator.
“I just want to be there for them, in and out of class” he expressed.
Mr. Aguillar is also looking forward to the interactive activities in class this year.
“The labs are really fun, I’m looking forward to them,” Aguillar shared.
He is also looking forward to coaching baseball.
As for his hobbies, Mr. Aguillar likes to spend his free time engaging in activities like working on cars and golfing. He mentioned how participating in sports like golf and baseball have shaped him into who he is today.
“Being on a team taught me how important it is to work together,” he mentioned.
Along with being able to realize when you need help, sports have had a positive effect on his life. Aguillar’s passions and experiences in science and sports also carry into his values in life and teaching.
He prioritizes hard work, and wants to ensure his students think the same.
Mr. Aguillar’s goal as a teacher is not only to help students understand biology, but to also teach them the importance of optimism. In being able to always strive for the best, he urges students to not let challenges get in the way of their goals.
