A new Bear joining Selma High this year is Rucio Rodriguez. Ms. Rodriguez is the new AVID Tutor working with all AVID teachers to help guide students for a successful future.
Last year she was a tutor at Fremont Elementary School working with fourth graders.
She graduated in the top five of her class from Parlier High School and was a member of Upward Bound.
She is currently a Junior at Fresno State, working on her Bachelor’s Degree in Psychology. She is also in the CAMP and Trio Program.
Ms. Rodriguez is here to get experience working with teenagers to hopefully get a glimpse of her future; she is working towards becoming a high school counselor.
“I felt like this was a good opportunity to get the experience I want with high schoolers.” she said.
After earning her Bachelor’s in Psychology, she will continue to study for her Master’s Degree so she can become a high school counselor.
Ms. Rodriguez enjoys Selma High School and sees how students are encouraged to do well.
“Here at Selma High I see that teachers push their students more.” she mentioned.
Ms. Rodriguez hopes to provide a comfortable environment where students feel safe and supported. She intends to help seniors with scholarships and college applications during their last year of high school.
At home Ms. Rodriguez has ten pet cats. She tends to pick up strays in ages ranging from two months old to 16 years old. She lives with her mother, father, and two younger brothers. She also has an older sister.
Ms. Rodriguez values personal growth. She knows that she can always do better and achieve more. She strongly believes in perseverance. She understands that everyone faces obstacles and hopes to help them overcome their challenges.
“Knowing you can do so much more than what you think you are capable of, pushes me to reach my goals.”
