Mr. Alvarado

Selma High School has a lot of new teachers joining its ranks this year, with one of them being Mr. Alvarado. Who is both teaching math and coaching football.
Unlike most people, who usually struggle on deciding their career path, Mr. Alvarado has always been set on teaching. He went into Liberal Studies to teach elementary before considering teaching high schoolers.
“I was going to be an elementary school teacher, but then I quickly realized that I could connect with high school students a little better,” he declared.
Choosing which subject to delve into was the easiest of his challenges.
“I always liked math. If I had to choose any subject I would rather work with numbers and formulas than sentences and letters,” said Mr. Alvarado.
Although new to Selma specifically, the school has always been on Mr. Alvarado’s radar. He attended Tulare for his earlier schooling and subbed there for three years, so Selma High School was always a school he’d heard about.
When asked why he chose Selma, Mr. Alvarado delightedly commented, “There was just something about the community and Selma as a whole felt like it would be the best fit for me personally.”
The community has been great, as Mr. Alvarado reveals that many teachers and administrators have reached out to him in order to make his transition easier.
As a new teacher here Mr. Alvarado hopes to keep his students excited about math, and to continue to support them throughout the rest of their high school years.
