Members of the class of 2020 attended the newly founded tradition of Senior Sunrise at the Selma High softball practice field on August 27, 2019. It’s an early morning event open to the seniors before the school day to watch the sunrise at the start of the school year. It’s a time to spend with friends and get good memories for their last year.

“It’s my senior year and I wanted to spend some time with my friends. It just seemed like a really good opportunity,” said senior Daniel Perez. “Especially because my friends and I are in band, we’re usually around everyone so this is really more of our time.”

“It was fun but weird because nobody knew where to go at first,” senior Danielle Ragatz said, recalling her own experience. “We were lost until we saw a group of people running towards the field and assumed that’s where it was.”

Some seniors said the location of the event made the view difficult to fully see and thought there could be a better area for it to take place.

“I felt like the Senior Sunrise itself and the way it was set up could’ve been a lot better. I think that leadership put in a lot of effort but the location is what kind of ruined it. We couldn’t see the sun,” explained senior Sarina Batth.

However, the location of the event wasn’t the only thing affecting their view of the sunrise.

“I’d say bring your blanket and don’t stand up in the front. It was really hard to see,”Ragatz said as a suggestion to future classes.

Despite these problems, the seniors still believe it’s an event worth attending for future graduation classes.

“I really would recommend it. If you can get a group of friends together, it’s really fun,” Perez said.

Batth agrees the experience is worthwhile. “I would definitely recommend going to senior sunrise, I think that being able to do all these senior events really makes you feel ready to move on to high school knowing that you had fun.”
