Being a new teacher on campus can be very frightening for many. Some say that it feels like coming back to school on the very first day. In fact Ruben Haunte, born and raised in Selma, attended SHS and graduated in 2002. Before becoming a teacher on campus he attended Fresno Pacific University for two years.
This year is different, he came back to reconnect with Selma High but with a different mindset on the aspects of education. Selma high and staff members are proud to announce him as SHS’s new Earth Science teacher. Although it is his first year working at SHS, he’s had a great experience thus far.
“The staff has made me feel welcomed and comfortable,” Mr. Haunte states.
Mr. Haunte chose to teach because he enjoys working with students and building students’ characters.
He takes much pride in educating his students and teaching the subject. His plans for this school year is to ensure students success and overall pass his class with as much knowledge into the following year.
“Some expectations for my students are [for them] to arrive to class on time, succeed academically, complete assignments, and turn in their work on time,” Mr Haunte adds.
He looks forward to getting through his first year of teaching and impacting each individual student in a positive way intellectually. Although most of the year has been a wonderful experience so far at SHS for Mr. Haunte.
“The most challenging part of this campus is getting through how things work around at SHS,” he said.
