As we all know, the Coronavirus, also known as COVID-19, has changed the world tremendously. Schools have shut down, and sports, graduations, weddings, etc. have been cancelled. This all came out of the blue and struck everyone. Doctors and officials are asking us to stay in quarantine and be aware of how dangerous this virus is, but there are some people that are not listening to the government.
Many people have been going out acting like the virus isn’t a big deal. It is a HUGE deal. Going out in the public increases the risk of either getting it or affecting someone else. Thousands of lives have been lost. Many families are scared to go out to get the items they need for their families. Social distancing is very important and at times like this, we need to take it seriously. We need to avoid direct contact with everyone.
There are some people protesting because they want their “freedom.” Many people want nail salons, restaurants, stores, and other businesses to open. These protests are very unnecessary because this is a worldwide pandemic we are going through, not something political.
According to the Los Angeles Times, “While officers wore masks, and had face shields at the rally, protesters did not have protective equipment and did not observe social distancing.” People are starting to forget what social distancing is. The protests are very dangerous because the COVID cases rate will go up. There are so many people gathered around in a crowd making it very unsafe for them.
This will not change the government’s decision on places to open because they need to do what is best for everyone and make sure they are safe. Yes, everyone is frustrated at the fact that we are not able to go to places, but they need to understand that what we are going through is dangerous. Many lives are at stake when you step one foot in public.
All we can do is hope for the best. We kids may survive this, but our parents and grandparents have less of a chance to survive. Don’t be selfish and please stay home. The more people stay home, the faster this pandemic and social distancing will be over.
