Gurman Brar and Saroj Khanolkar have been named Clarion Co-Editors-in-Chief for the 2018-2019 school year. Brar and Khanolkar have both been in the Clarion for two years, and each have experience as an editor. Brar was one of the two sports editors, and Khanolkar was one of the two news editors.
Brar has a vision for what she wants to do as co-editor-in-chief, and is prepared to make that vision a reality.
“I will try my best to unite the class and to make the class more efficient,” stated Brar. “I’m really looking forward to next year and taking on a bigger job.”
Khanolkar is also excited to have a greater role in the production of the newspaper.
“I’m looking forward to putting in as much time and effort required in order to make The Clarion as great as it can be,” said Khanolkar. “I want The Clarion to be as effective at delivering Selma High students with the news which affects them.”
It is one of the only -if not the only- time in which the Clarion has appointed co-editors-in-chief two years in a row. The 2017-2018 Clarion staff was led by seniors Nikki Campos and Hannah Mitchell.
Journalism advisor Mr. Castle is confident that both of the appointed editors-in-chief are right for this position.
“The co-editors-in chief provide the leadership direction and help set the tone for the creative and the editorial focus of the paper,” said Castle. “[Brar and Khanolkar] are excellent journalists and, most importantly, they understand the important role of journalism in the community.”
